Recorded under the name August Stars, Sébastien Wright’s early EPs for Make Mine Music, released in 2006, received praise for their unsettling, desolate and highly atmospheric ambience. With Still Crescent, Sébastien takes these sounds further into darker territory.
The music is partially a product of Sébastien working shifts; often recorded in the small hours, it captures the strange sense of dislocation and isolation felt when life is out of sync with everyone else around.
Explaining the change of name, Sébastien notes that he felt that August Stars represented a particular sound, whereas Still Crescent allows him to explore different avenues, textures, sounds and recording techniques.
To date, there have been two limited edition Still Crescent EPs on Make Mine Music, with more releases to follow.
